Kuala Lumpur, 17th May 2009 – The 2009 International AIDS Memorial Day (IAMD), the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilisations campaign addressing HIV/AIDS, was commemorated in more than 100 countries on May 17, 2009. The objective of the IAMD was to honour and support those who have been affected by the AIDS epidemic and to mobilise communities worldwide to engage in dialogue, education and partnerships to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS.
This year, for the first time, the Malaysian AIDS Council together with its Partner Organisations focused on religion to garner the support of religious leaders in reducing stigma and discrimination towards Malaysians living with HIV. Thus, the role of religion in HIV prevention, treatment and care was the main highlight in the IAMD commemoration in Malaysia. more |
