| The Mercedes-Benz Red Ribbon Media
Awards is coming our way in October this year. Once again,
writers, reporters, journalists, performers and artistes
will be vying for the awards given out in recognition
of journalistic and creative excellence relating to HIV/AIDS
in their respective fields. |
| |
| First introduced by the Malaysian
AIDS Foundation in 1996, the awards are part of its effort
to |
|
| acknowledge and honour the vital role played
by the media in HIV/AIDS education. |
| |
| The awards are presented in three categories
- the print, broadcasting and non-traditional (Internet and
the performing and visual arts) media and covers articles, advertisements
or public service announcements. |
| |
| The judges comprise editors and journalists
from the various newspapers, experts from the creative and broadcasting
fields, HIV/AIDS resource people, young personalities, artistes
and members of the public. All work submitted will be judged
for its ability to convey clear and accurate information and
to destigmatise HIV/AIDS. Originality, creativity and execution
are also paramount. |
| |
| The awards are given out for HIV/AIDS-related
works that have been published, broadcasted or performed between
June 1, 2006, and May 1, 2008. All works submitted must have
appeared in Malaysia and entrants must be citizens or residents
of Malaysia. |
| |
| Winners from each category will receive
a specially designed award sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia
as well as a cash prize of RM2,500 and a Certificate of Excellence
which will be presented on October 25, 2008, at the Mandarin
Oriental Kuala Lumpur, in conjunction with the Red Ribbon Gala.
|
| |
| Deadline for entries is July 8, 2008 |
| |
| |
| This is the third time that Mercedes-Benz
Malaysia is the principal sponsor for the awards held on a biennial
basis. The commitment of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is in line with
the efforts of its parent company Daimler AG in its fight against
HIV/AIDS which has held high priority at Daimler since the early
1990s. |
| |
| The Global HIV/AIDS Policy Daimler implemented
in December 2005 offers recommendations for effectively combating
HIV/AIDS in the workplace. Daimler rejects all forms of discrimination
against those afflicted with the disease and guarantees complete
confidentiality. It also supports and promotes preventive measures.
While recommending counseling and testing, the company emphasizes
that such tests must be voluntary and may not violate the affected
employees' right to privacy. |
