Red Ribbon Media Awards Return

Awards to Recognise Excellence in Journalistic and Creative Response to HIV/AIDS Now Open for Submissions

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 APRIL 2012 – The Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) has the pleasure of announcing the return of the Red Ribbon Media Awards to recognise excellence in journalistic and creative response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Malaysia. The Awards are presented to members of the Media (print, broadcast and advertising) as well as the performing and visual arts for their outstanding work related to HIV/AIDS during the eligibility period between January 2010 and December 2011.

An acknowledgement of creative, effective, responsible and courageous journalism, the Awards debuted in 1996 as an initiative of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation, MAC’s fundraising arm, to honour the vital role played by the Media in HIV/AIDS awareness. They are making a return this year after a four-year hiatus as part of MAC’s celebration of our successful partnerships with the various Media agencies and practitioners around the country.

Outstanding work by the Media will be recognised in three categories, namely Print Media, Broadcast Media and Non-Traditional Media. Winner of each category will be determined by a panel of esteemed judges based on a set of criteria, such as the ability to convey clear and accurate information on HIV/AIDS and to constructively address or challenge HIV/AIDS-related stigma, considered use of sensitive, appropriate and inclusive language, as well as originality and creativity in execution. A specially designed trophy, cash prize worth RM 5,000 and a certificate of excellence await each winner.

MAC is calling out to all media practitioners based in Malaysia to submit their entries for relevant work published, broadcasted or performed during the above said eligibility period. Entry forms can be downloaded from the MAC website via the following link, <https://www.mac.org.my/v3/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/RR-Media-Award_Entry-Form_A4_03042012_web.pdf>.

Further information pertaining to the rules and regulations of the Red Ribbon Media Awards 2012 can be found in the entry form. Alternatively, you may also contact Zaki Arzmi of the MAC at 03-4045 1033 or [email protected] to learn more.

Deadline for submissions is 23 April 2012.

The Red Ribbon Media Awards 2012 will be presented at a prestigious dinner gala celebrating media partners of the MAC, details of which are to be announced in due course.

“Twenty five years into the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Malaysia, stigma remains the biggest single threat to Malaysians living with HIV everywhere. However, together we can fight stigma! Evidence-based discourses and the courage to speak out are integral to eradicating stigma and dispelling myths about HIV/AIDS.”
Tan Sri Mohd Zaman Khan, President, Malaysian AIDS Council
