New Executive Committee Lineup Announced at 11th Biennial General Meeting
Kuala Lumpur, 26 May 2012 – The Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) is pleased to announce that a new Executive Committee (EXCO) was formed at the 11th Biennial General Meeting held here today at Furama Hotel Bukit Bintang. This meeting was officiated by Datuk Dr Lokman Hakim, Deputy Director General for Public Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Congratulations to Datuk Dr Raj Karim who was elected as the President of MAC for the term 2012 – 2014.
Datuk Dr Raj Abdul Karim has been a great champion for gender equality and women’s empowerment. In a career spanning more than three decades, Datuk Dr Raj has been the prime mover of many policies and programmes that are in place today for ensuring the health and wellbeing of women, children and families. Her illustrious vocation includes her stint at the former regional director of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) for the East and South-East Asia and Oceania Region. She was also a former commissioner to the National Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM). Datuk Dr Raj is also no stranger to the HIV response and public health, as she is currently the Vice Chair of the Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM), a governance body for all programmes and activities related to the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) in Malaysia.
The MAC Secretariat and Partner Organisations look forward to Datuk Dr Raj Karim’s leadership.
A special welcome is also extended to the following new members on the EXCO.

The General Meeting of the Council is held biennially by May 31. It consists of not more than three (3) accredited delegates per Member and the office bearers of the Council. Only the accredited delegates have voting rights and deemed proxies of their respective organisations.
