A total of 100 young students aged between 10 and 15 years old participated in a series of football coaching clinics under the ‘Protect the Goal’ campaign led by Asian Federation Confederation (AFC) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) together with the support from UNAIDS and Malaysian AIDS Council.

The football coaching clinics were held in three different venues:

  1. Johan Cruyff Football Club, Kuala Lumpur on 24 August 2014;
  2. Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Maluri, Kuala Lumpur (31 August 2014);
  3. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Datuk Harun, Kuala Lumpur (7 September 2014).

‘Protect the Goal’ was conceived as a means to create awareness on HIV and AIDS through football given the huge popularity of the sports among children and the youth. Students engaged in this campaign were given the opportunity to learn about not only football but positive values and healthy lifestyle choices from campaign ambassador K. Reuben, national football defender and Armed Forces player.
