MALAYSIA’S LARGEST WATER BALLOON FIGHT IS OUT TO MAKE A SPLASH FOR SEXUAL HEALTH AWARENESS

ESP BURST ASIA 2014 IS HERE TO BREAK TABOOS (AND A RECORD!)

Kuala Lumpur, 15 October 2014 – There’s no secret that ESP Burst Asia 2014 promises to be Malaysia’s largest water balloon fight, but it isn’t just a fun, frivolous event – it’s also the culmination of a year’s worth of various activities organised to raise HIV & AIDS awareness.

ESP Burst Asia 2014 is backed by ESP Condoms to support and benefit Malaysia AIDS Council (MAC) and Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) – two unique parties that have taken HIV & AIDS awareness nationwide with the Empowering Safety Program, the #ESPIAmSafe initiative and other activities.

The event has further strengthened with the support of Red FM, Nivea and Menara Kuala Lumpur.

2014: The Year Of Changing Mindsets

Since the start of 2014, efforts have been made to empower Malaysians with the hard facts about how the HIV epidemic has affected the country. A membership drive for the MAF’s Red Ribbon Youth Club – a youth-centric HIV & AIDS education, empowerment, advocacy and leadership program – was held to encourage Malaysians aged 18 to 40 to understand the truth about HIV & AIDS through a series of workshops.

In addition to that, the Empowering Safety Program’s workshop modules have also endeavoured to bring the core topics regarding HIV & AIDS as well as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) towards better sexual healthcare awareness to a wider audience.

Splashing Together For HIV, AIDS and STI Awareness

ESP Burst Asia 2014 aims to bring Malaysians of all walks of life for a noble cause. The act of throwing a water balloon is a symbolic gesture of breaking through the barriers of taboos, myths, misconceptions and stigma associated with HIV & AIDS. It’s truly a situation that runs deep in Malaysian life. National HIV surveillance data from the Ministry of Health reveals that in Malaysia between 1986 and 2013, over 101,677 cases of HIV infections have been reported while more than 16,340 people have succumbed to AIDS related illnesses.

From touching upon the past, ESP Burst Asia 2014 is also very much involved with the present. To allay concerns about the recent water crisis encountered by the Malaysian public, the organisers of ESP Burst Asia 2014 would like to inform participants and friends that the water used to fill the water balloons is sourced from filtered mining pools.

ESP Burst Asia 2014 aims to bring together people from all walks of life, regardless of ethnicity and gender, in one act to break through barriers and help people make informed decisions – one of the core messages of ESP Condom’s HIV & AIDS Knowledge (HAK) campaign.

There’s More To ESP Burst Asia 2014 Than Balloons

Fun with water isn’t the only item on the agenda. Apart from the main draw – the water balloon fight – other activities will be held to create a great atmosphere for all participants.

Pop starlet Cassandra Kay, ESP’s Ambassador, will be taking the stage and getting participants of ESP Burst Asia 2014 ready to rumble with a full set. This young Australian up-and-comer is also responsible for writing ESP’s irresistible anthem, “Love Your Life”, and is set to become a heart seeker in the music world. Red FM’s Red Ryders will also be present to conduct activities for the ESP Burst Asia 2014 crowd right after the doors open. And to end the day on a high note, ESP Burst Asia 2014 participants will be treated to some sweet beats after the event from local DJs.

Breaking A Record While Breaking Taboos

ESP Burst Asia 2014 promises to be a great chance for Malaysians to break a new record to become the country’s biggest water balloon fight. It’s not every day that a crowd of 10,000 people will get splashed with 200,000 water balloons! But don’t forget about the deeper meaning behind the event. It’s an opportunity for Malaysians to rally together and show their support for a cause that cannot be ignored. It’s time to make a splash for HIV & AIDS awareness at Burst Asia 2014 on Saturday, 29 November, 2014 at Dataran Petaling Jaya!
