Local Volunteers Joined Thousands of Team Members across 93 Countries and Territories by Serving the Malaysian Association for the Blind and Malaysian AIDS Foundation

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – OCTOBER 30, 2014 – Hilton Worldwide celebrated its third annual Global Week of Service, October 19 – 25 where more than 300 volunteers from Hilton Kuala Lumpur came together to participate in various activities during the week-long celebration. Community service is an integral part of Hilton Worldwide’s culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across our portfolio of eleven distinct brands and more than 4,200 properties. Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s efforts were a part of Hilton Worldwide’s week-long annual celebration of the company’s commitment to serving and enriching the communities where we live, work and travel. This year, Hilton Worldwide participated in more than 3,000 hands-on service projects globally.

The Global Week of Service project in Hilton Kuala Lumpur kicked off with a masterchef baking class headed by the Hotel’s dedicated team of pastry chefs to students at the Montfort Boys Town. Then, a cookie sale was organized hotel-wide to help raise funds for two beneficiary organizations – Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) and Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF), in an effort to help the organizations continue their work and contributions to the community.

More than RM14,000 in total was raised in five days where all hotel Team Members were involved in the sale of the cookies. The funds were presented to the organizations during the celebration event held at leveL7even, Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Prof Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, Chairman, Malaysian AIDS Foundation and Dato’ S. Ganesan, CEO, Malaysian Association for the Blind both represented their respective organizations to receive the contribution.

“We feel very fortunate to work in a business that presents us with so many opportunities to be part of millions of people’s lives, invite them into our hotels and to be a good neighbor to the various communities. The proceeds from our fund raising activity will go to both of our collaborating partners, Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) and Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF). We hope that with the opportunities presented to us, we are able to affect real and meaningful change together with our community partners,” said Jamie Mead, general manager at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide’s largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together Team Members from across Hilton Worldwide’s offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company’s connections with its local communities and bringing Team Members closer together. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide’s commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably.
