#StayNegatHIVe Campaign Provides Free HIV Testing Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 December 2017 – Lablink Medical Laboratory has collaborated with the Malaysian AIDS Council on a national free confidential HIV testing campaign #StayNegatHIVe in conjunction with World AIDS Day 2017.

For one month between 1 and 31 December 2017, Lablink Medical Laboratory will offer a total of 1,200 free HIV testing and free doctor’s consultations to participants of the campaign at any of the 25 participating panel clinics nationwide.

The campaign was created to encourage HIV testing among Malaysians, particularly those at greater risk. This objective is aligned with the first of the three 95-95-95 goals of the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s National Strategic Plan on Ending AIDS 2016-2030, which is to achieve a 95 percent HIV testing rate among key populations at risk by 2030.

Providing confidential HIV testing for free in a safe, private, non-judgmental environment is one of the measures to reduce barriers to HIV testing. It also complements the free confidential voluntary HIV testing and counselling services provided by the Ministry of Health Malaysia at health clinics.

Making HIV testing more accessible is one of the ways to reduce the fear and stigma associated with HIV and AIDS and to intensify the dialogue around HIV prevention, treatment and other related issues.

#StayNegatHIVe is also a response to the rise in sexual transmission of HIV which accounted for an alarming 84 percent of new infections reported last year. As more Malaysians become increasingly vulnerable, the need to encourage Malaysians to know their HIV status cannot be overstated.

Members of the public are invited to participate in this campaign by simply walking into any #StayNegatHIVe panel clinics. Appointments are not required. Pre and post-test consultations conducted by medical doctors together with the HIV test are provided for free.
